Wildlife photographer of the Year 2007
I am pleased to present to you the image that received the number one prize in its category "Bird Behavior 2007" from the well known competition organized by BBC International, Wildlife magazine and the Museum of Natural History in London.
I took this photograph during a trip in Eastern Canada last February 2007.
I was able to see about 15 of these magnificent birds. This Snowy Owl let me watch it for several days. The temperature was from - 5°C to -25°C and the snow would take harmonious forms under the windy conditions. I discovered a beautiful creature in an angelic decor!
That day, the temperature dropped to minus 15° Celsius, the grounds are covered with 1 meter of ice. The sun just sets itself over the horizon, enflames the sky all over with its magical surreal lighting. At that moment the snowy owl takes flight. That moment is magic and only last for a few minutes but leaves me with intense emotions.
Lying down on the snow, the bird passes a few meters away from me and allows me to take this fantastic image.
